This program provides your rental property with year-round, continuous service so you don’t have to contact us each time a tenant moves in or out. Once your property has been set up under the program, you won’t be charged service connection
fees or be responsible for a tenant’s outstanding balance.
How the program works
When a tenant tells us they want to discontinue their electric service, we’ll take a meter reading and close their account. The power will remain on and will automatically transfer to your name without the service connection fee.
The electric service will be billed on your automatic landlord account until a new tenant calls us and qualifies for service. It’s up to you to ensure the new tenant has transferred service into their name. You will be billed for all power use until
that time. You may wish to obtain an order # and date from the tenant to ensure they have contacted us.
Once we have connected service in the new tenant’s name, we will take a meter reading. There will be no further charges to your account for this property until the tenant moves out and closes their account.
We protect tenant privacy
We follow a strict privacy policy in accordance with the provincial Privacy Act. If a tenant’s power is disconnected for non-payment, these regulations prevent us from:
- Notifying you of the disconnection, or
- Automatically transferring the meter into your name.
