To inspire young minds, fuel innovation and foster safety, programs and partnerships give Nova Scotians the opportunity to imagine what’s possible, in the energy world and beyond.

discovery

Discovery Centre

For over 25 years, The Discovery Centre has provided hands-on demonstrations that prove science is both fun and interesting to young minds. In early 2017, The Discovery Centre moved into the southwest section of our Lower Water Street headquarters.

We’re pleased to offer them free rent for 25 years at our headquarters and $1 million over five years to help create their exhibits and operate in their new space.

We believe this space is where future leaders, ideas and possibilities will come together and take Nova Scotia into the future. The Discovery Centre’s new world-class facility showcases more than 40,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art exhibit space, including the Nova Scotia Power sponsored Energy Gallery, which is a hands-on experience that focuses on all aspects of sustainable and renewable energy.

Employee Giving Programs

Our employees take pride in being generous community leaders, and we are proud to support programs that amplify their efforts.

IWK Lottery Program

This program enables employees to give to a charity that is near and dear to so many hearts and families in our province and beyond: The IWK Health Centre Foundation. Employees participate via payroll deduction and through our United Way campaign.

Good Neighbour Program

Employees who fundraise or volunteer for charitable organizations or groups can apply for the company to match up to $1,000 a year in support of their volunteer efforts.

Grade 6 Electrical Safety Program

Electricity can be fun! Igniting curiosity and focusing on important electrical safety helps us do our part to inspire young minds and build a stronger energy future.

Building Waterfront

Junior Achievement

Our company and our employees have been long time supporters of Junior Achievement (JA) Nova Scotia and their programs for youth that inspire innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit.

In April 2019, we were excited to welcome them to our Halifax headquarters and provide rent free office space for their dedicated management team.

JA Nova Scotia is a passionate group focused on providing youth with hands-on learning experience through financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship. From early discussions, it was clear our two organizations were a perfect fit - with the shared vision to inspire young minds that will be our future leaders and innovators.

NSP Makerspace Program

Nova Scotia Power Makerspace

We’ve contributed $250,000 to lnnovacorp to help facilitate the development, growth and operation of the Nova Scotia Power Makerspace at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation in Sydney.

Managed by Innovacorp, the Nova Scotia Power Makerspace provides Cape Breton start-ups, entrepreneurs, students and other creative minds with the space, equipment, materials and education to design and build innovative products. A creator’s dream, the space includes a general work area, a tool library, a metal working shop, a selection of woodworking tools, an electronics/robotics lab, as well as 3D drawing and printing abilities.
