Our scholarships are available to high school, university and college students. You also must be a Nova Scotia resident, landed immigrant or Canadian citizen.

Scholarships are awarded based on a number of criteria, including academic achievement, community leadership, and demonstrated financial need. Each year, we offer 20 scholarships and eight bursaries to qualifying students enrolled in trades and degree programs. These categories include:

Four $2,500 awards to African Nova Scotian students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program in the areas of Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law.
Recipients may also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship at Nova Scotia Power.
Four $2,500 awards to students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program in the areas of Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law.

Four $2,500 awards are available to Mi’kmaw students entering any year of a full time post-secondary accredited education program. Past recipients may re-apply.
Recipients may also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship at Nova Scotia Power.
Ten $1,000 awards to children/dependents of employees or retirees of Nova Scotia Power. These awards are available to students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program.
Recipients may also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship at Nova Scotia Power.
Six $2,500 awards to female students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program in Trades or in the areas of Engineering, Technology and Innovation.
Recipients may also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship at Nova Scotia Power.
To honour Emera’s former CEO, Emera established the Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship valued at $40,000. An Atlantic Canadian student attending an Atlantic Canadian university in the areas of science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, or math will receive $10,000 per year for four years. The recipient will also receive a paid, 12-week internship and a senior mentor from one of Emera’s companies.

You will need a resume, transcript (high school, university or college) and budget document. There will also be a short essay (500 words or less) required for each scholarship. The essay topic will be released when the program is open for applications.
Our scholarship program typically opens for applications in January and closes in April.
