Vivek Sood Appointed to Nova Scotia Power Board of Directors

Halifax, NS – The Nova Scotia Power Board of Directors is extending a warm welcome to its newest member, Vivek Sood.

“Vivek has spent much of his career and personal life developing future leaders, engaging with communities as well as industry partners, and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. His depth of retail operations experience will further strengthen our Board and support Nova Scotia Power as we continue to focus on safe and reliable service for our customers and being a trusted partner in communities across the province,” says Peter Gregg, NSP President and CEO.

Born in Uganda, raised in Pictou County, and living in Halifax, Vivek has spent over 30 years working in Crown corporations, publicly traded companies, and the provincial government. For the last 25 years, Vivek has been a trusted team member of Empire Company Limited and Sobeys Inc., holding various positions, including Vice President, Finance & Administration, Senior Vice President, Pharmacy Group, and Executive Vice President, Related Businesses, with national responsibility for pharmacy, wholesale, fuel, convenience, and liquor business units for Sobeys. He has also served as Executive Sponsor for Sobeys and Empire’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategy.

Vivek’s interests extend deep into the community. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, where he also Chairs the Human Resources & Governance Committee and the Building Committee. Additionally, he serves as a Board Governor for Saint Mary’s University and contributes as a valued member of the Dean’s Circle at Dalhousie University Faculty of Management. 

Drawing from his personal experiences, Vivek is the Board Trustee, Board Vice-Chair, and Chair of the Audit/Risk Oversight Committee for the Canadian Museum of Immigration and a former member of the Board of Directors for Black Business Consulting. 

Among his many accolades, Vivek is the Honourary Lieutenant-Colonel for the 1st Field Artillery Regiment, was named CEO of the Year (2020) by Atlantic Business Magazine, and was inducted into their Atlantic Business Hall of Fame last year.
