Energy upgrades for Souls Harbour Rescue Mission
Souls Harbour Rescue Mission was able to make the change from oil to fully ducted heat pump systems at their eight locations across the province. These upgrades provide warmth, comfort, and significant cost savings to the organization. Cherry Laxton, the COO of Souls Harbour, was able to work with one of Nova Scotia Power’s Preferred Contractors and our Business Advisors, while leveraging available rebates through Efficiency Nova Scotia.

Independent school sees savings with new energy solutions
Kings-Edgehill School’s administration building is over 100 years old and as with similar buildings across Nova Scotia, the age of this building meant it had an inefficient heating system with no means for cooling or to decrease humidity. Instead of implementing a standalone cooling solution, the school consulted the Business Solutions team at NS Power to develop and implement a more efficient solution.

Building owners target energy efficiency
Santé Centre is a two-story, 20,265 square foot commercial multitenant wellness centre, offering a variety of health, fitness, and health food services to customers. The building owners made a conscious decision to target energy efficiency. The project began there – a conversation with Nova Scotia Power about reducing energy costs.

Implementing an efficient solution to gain energy savings
Trinity United Church is a large, landmark brick building in downtown New Glasgow was spending an average of $37k/year in energy costs. The existing 80-year-old boiler needed to be replaced and the council wanted to make a change to save money without sacrificing the specific needs of the church and its patrons. After meeting with one of NS Powers’ Preferred Contractors, the church was able to make an informed decision to replace the oil boiler with heat pumps.

The Town of Digby has been upgrading many of their buildings to improve energy efficiency and convert fossil fuel-powered energy systems. The Town selected the Digby Fire Station with the goal to reduce operational costs by cutting down their oil consumption, while using as much of the existing infrastructure for easy installation of a new heating and cooling solution.

Historic building invests in modern energy technology and gains cost efficiencies
Built in 1930, the Main Street Station is a well-known historic landmark in Kentville. Today, it houses businesses and apartments but still retains most of the structural dignity of when it was first built. The existing boiler was inefficient, unreliable, and not sized to meet additional demand from new tenants. The owner completed a complete system retrofit with the install of a new heating and cooling solution. This would be cost-effective throughout its lifecycle.

Make Energy Solutions Easy: Energy Efficient Facility Operations
The Bedford Institute of Oceanography is advancing its sustainability goals with help from our Business Solutions team. As part of the Smart Grid Nova Scotia project, the facility is installing 300 kW of rooftop solar panels, a 200 kW battery storage system, and a seawater-source geothermal heat pump – helping to create a cleaner future for generations to come.
