Vice President, Customer Experience and Innovation

Lia MacDonald was appointed Vice President, Customer Experience and Innovation in August 2022. 

Lia joined Nova Scotia Power in 2000 and has extensive operational experience, having held increasingly senior roles in the areas of field operations and storm response, work management and resource allocation, asset management, and system and capital planning. Her previous roles include Director of Planning, Senior Director T&D Field Operations, Senior Director Enterprise Asset Management and VP, Transmission, Distribution & Delivery.  

In her 20 years with the company, Lia has played an instrumental role in various operational and regulatory initiatives.  In her previous roles, she led teams in overall day-to-day operations including safety and productivity, asset management and customer service in the Transmission, Distribution & Delivery of electricity to customers.  Prior to that she co-led the 2020 Integrated Resource Plan - which charts a course for our electricity system’s transformation towards a low-carbon future - while overseeing the integration of the company’s generation, transmission and distribution asset management, reliability, and capital programming.  In her current role, her focus is leading teams to refresh the company’s Customer Experience strategy as well as the development of Grid Modernization and Electrification strategies through enhanced customer solutions. She is also a co-lead to facilitate the transition of the independent system operator function in Nova Scotia.  

Lia holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University and is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia. She received a Master of Business Administration from the Sobey School of Business Executive MBA program at St. Mary’s University. Lia is an alumna of Nova Scotia’s 21 Inc. Leadership Program, former Board Member of Halifax’s Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre and recent Board Member of United Way Halifax including as Nova Scotia Power’s 2022-2024 Campaign Chair for United Way Maritimes.  She has a strong passion for grassroots community volunteer programming, such as the important work conducted by Ward 5 and the United Way.
