Nova Scotia Power’s Community Energy Fund Launches in Partnership with Organizations Across Nova Scotia
Halifax, NS – Nova Scotia Power today announced the launch of its new Community Energy Fund, a $500,000 initiative aimed at helping customers with their power bills. The program will be delivered through local community organizations across the province.
The fund was created with input from community organizations and stakeholders, including members of the Affordable Energy Coalition, to help ensure support reaches as many customers as possible. This approach builds on existing community programs and services, making support more accessible for customers.
The Community Energy Fund will match up to $300 per eligible customer account, helping more households access support. Funding will be distributed in two phases, beginning in September and November, extending the reach of the fund and ensuring support is available through multiple billing cycles and seasons.
Participating organizations include:
- Canning Interchurch Council
- Canning Lions Club
- Centre d'appui à la petite enfance de la Nouvelle-Écosse (La Pirouette)
- Chebucto Connections
- Truro Housing Outreach Society
- Welcome Housing & Support Services (Halifax)
- YMCA of Cumberland – Community Development
Working directly within their communities, these organizations will help connect customers to available support to those who need it most.
“We’ve worked directly with community organizations that work closely with the people and families this program was created to support," said Jennifer Parker, Vice President, Communications and External Engagement at Nova Scotia Power. “By partnering with trusted community organizations, we're helping ensure support reaches those who need it most while making the greatest possible impact across Nova Scotia.”
The Community Energy Fund complements Nova Scotia Power's broader community investment program, which contributes more than $2 million annually to community organizations and initiatives across Nova Scotia, including $300,000 in annual support for the HEAT Fund. Developed with input from community stakeholders, the Community Energy Fund represents a collaborative approach to helping ensure support reaches customers through trusted local organizations.
