Income-Based Programs

In support of Nova Scotians living on a low income, our Home Energy Assistance Top-up (HEAT) Fund supports with funds for home heating during the cold winter months.

HEAT Fund

The Home Energy Assistance Top-up (HEAT Fund) is available to individuals and families in Nova Scotia who live on a low income to help with paying their energy bills. Since 1997, we’ve worked with the Salvation Army to help families across the province. In partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia since 2008, the Fund provides emergency assistance for all forms of home heating, including electric, propane, oil, wood, and natural gas.

We contribute $300,000 annually to the Home Energy Assistance Top-up (HEAT) Fund, which runs every year starting in January. We know some of our customers are struggling to afford necessities.

Learn more about the HEAT Fund and how to apply on The Salvation Army website.
